Celebrating Visual Arts in Torbay

As part of Torbay’s celebration of visual arts this Summer, Artizan Gallery is excited to be bringing over 100 artists to Torquay’s high street for their fourth annual Summer Open Exhibition.

From July 12th-August 16th, Unit 5 Fleet Walk will play host to a wealth of local artistic talent from across Torbay and South Devon, as well as welcoming national and international submissions to celebrate Torbay as a destination for visual arts.

This annual exhibition has become the highlight of the Artizan calendar, having started completely by accident in 2015 following a last-minute cancellation at the gallery. Inspired by the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, which this year celebrates its 250th anniversary with more than 1,300 works, the decision was taken to curate Artizan’s first ever open exhibition; The Artizan End of Summer Open Exhibition.

Despite the impromptu call, the response from artists was phenomenal and the exhibition was inundated with submissions. This has continued to be the case year on year, and the exhibition has grown from a short two week show to curation of over 100 artists at the height of the season.

As well as demonstrating Artizan’s continued commitment to supporting visual arts in Torbay, the exhibition marks the start of new collaboration and increased cooperation which will deliver more projects of this scale in the next 24 months.
